Todd Akin Still Alive in Missouri Race - Leads McCaskill

A couple of weeks ago, Missouri senate candidate Todd Akin led his Democrat rival by 11 points.  Then there was that gaffe in an interview where he poorly chose his words.  The Democrats saw their chance and broadcast far and wide a false meaning to Akin's comment that he did not intend.

The Republican Party, seeing once again a chance to pull defeat from the jaws of victory, did what lemmings do naturally:  they tried their best to self-destruct.  They joined the Democrats, hysterically screaming for Akin to step down.  In fact, the hysterics on the Right overshadowed those on the Left.  The Dems just sat back and let the GOP do their dirty work for them.  Once again the "Stupid Party" allows the Democrats to play them like a cheap fiddle in a rowdy bar on a Saturday night.  And the Republicans dance to their tune:  "Grab your partner, round and round, dosey doe!"

Akin's gaffe was completely insubstantial.  It does not reflect who he is, what he believes or how he will vote.  As a matter of fact, his voting record as a Republican congressman is solidly conservative.  And, last time I looked, being an expert in female physiology is not a requirement for a senate seat.  Except for the propaganda angle, who really cares?

In spite of the Republicans' attempt to hand the senate seat to the Democrats, Akin still leads in the Missouri senate race, 44 to 43 over Democrat Claire McCaskill.  That lead would be much wider had not the Republican Establishment demanded Akin step down.  The best thing that the GOP could do right now is to SHUT THE HELL UP.  Let the controversy blow over.  We still have more than two months to go until the elections.  That gives Akin time to build on his lead, assuming his own Party is able to extract their heads from their nether regions and get on board.

So my advice to fellow Republicans:

Michelle Malkin - SHUT THE HELL UP

Robert Stacy McCain - SHUT THE HELL UP

Republicans Everywhere - SHUT THE HELL UP

Let Todd Akin overcome this otherwise meaningless controversy and get back on track.

Given the sheer magnitude of the gaffe, I'm not surprised that you're advising all Republicans to shut up about it. A pooper scooper the size of a tractor trailer will be needed to haul it away.

If a woman is raped, she's just as likely to get pregnant that way as if she had sex with a consenting partner. Geddit? It's a biological fact. To expect a woman to give birth to a child by a man who has raped her is absolutely despicable. It's disgusting. It's abhorrent.

Geddit? Women have the right to vote. If you don't know that by now, you're certainly going to find out in November.

As one whose best friend was brutally raped in college by a diplomat's son and whose sister-in-law was kidnapped and raped in the 1970's by a serial rapist and mass murderer, I found Akin's statements to be disgusting and wrong-headed.

Worse, Akin has given ammunition to the Dems and, of course, to the Enemedia.

I am very concerned that significant damage has been done to the chances of getting the Dems out of control of the Senate. I hope that I'm wrong about those chances being compromised. At least, it's not October!

Ah, well. This is one of the craziest election cycles -- if not THE craziest -- in my lifetime.

What did he say about rape that was disgusting? Are you referring to the word "legitimate?". You know, I'm sure, that he meant "legitate CASE of rape," he did not mean to suggest that an act of rape is ever legitimate. He also meant to say that pregnancies from rape are rare. This might be factually incorrect but I don't see how it is disgusting or how it relates to your friends who were raped. I feel this man is being unfairly crucified for simply misspeaking. I also see a lot of "group think" going on and I hate herd mentalities.

I want Republicans to shut up because they are making it far worse by making the left's arguments for them. Some women love to abort kids, yes I "geddit.". The fact that Akin was factually incorrect about a woman's physiology does not make him an evil person nor disqualify him from holding office. So vote for all the rabid, economy killing liberals you like, frankly my dear, I don't give a damn.

I'm afraid we'll have to agree to disagree on Akin. And as of today - he's behind by double digits to McCaskill. McCaskill! He needs to do the right thing and step aside, IMHO.

They absolutely need to get rid of him. I'm speaking dispassionately here--I'm not American. But Obama has a 20 point lead among woman voters in the polls, and if this sort of thing keeps up, Romney is not going to like the taste of the sandwich.

First time I've visited this site and I say bravo to your comments on Akin.
Those who take the supposedly higher ground by condemning his comments are in reality taking the lower ground by throwing principal and truth out the window in favor of a quick gold star of false morality.
Anyone with a brain knows that there are indeed 'legitimate' and 'illegitimate' rapes, and that the number of 'illegitimate' ones probably come very close to the number of 'legitimate' ones.
Yes I mean what I said because it's TRUE.
If you want to argue that his facts/science are faulty, that's a LEGITIMATE argument, but to be sooooo outraged by an obviously poor choice of wording is as despicable as it is to condemn the man on false pretenses.

I find it truly amazing that Atkins statement are so disgusting compared to what....murdering a unborn child? Funny how you women scream outrage and disgust over his misspoken words on rape, and think pulling an unborn baby from the womb, peircing it's brain with a needle and killing it. You think that is just women's health care are a bunch of sick twats and I hope you burn in hell! I'm tired of a woman's pussy being why assholes like Obama get elected. Start voting with your brains instead of your vagina!

I think you need to take a look at that poll. PPP is normally known to oversample Dems but in this one instance they have oversampled republicans. Why would a Dem polling group want to show that the race is still close? Easy answer on that one. They want Akin to stay in the race and not drop out. PPP is so obvious on this it is disgusting and you fell for the bait there.
