Maher made a Juan Williams-esque confession on his program when he apprehensively noted that Mohammed has just become the most popular baby name in Britain. “Am I a racist to feel alarmed by that?” Maher asked his panel. “Because I am. And it’s not because of the race, it’s because of the religion. I don’t have to apologize, do I, for not wanting the Western world to be taken over by Islam in 300 years?”One panel member informed Maher that if he worked for NPR, he'd be fired for saying that.
Hoover further stoked Maher by claiming that the U.K is saddled with a “far bigger problem” than baby names: Sharia Law, which she said is creeping into England.
“Then I’m right,” Maher said, taking her for her word. “I should be alarmed. And I don’t apologize for it.”
Lawrence Auster at View From the Right says that Maher's statements may indicate a signficant awakening to the Islamic threat. He writes:
My guess is that Maher himself doesn't mean anything serious by this, because he's too much of a liberal hater of our society to want to defend it from any enemy. But, just as with the recent stunning statements about Islam by Chancelor Merkel, who also didn't mean anything, the fact that he uttered such thoughts indicates a growing, or at least dawning, awareness in the West of the Islam threat, and this is significant.

I get a good laugh at watching some of Maher bits.. He has shown a libertarian streak at times... leaning toward the more classical definition of a liberal.. The importance of liberty and equal rights, and not the hijacked definition which includes big gov't, and entitlements. He is dead set against religion... which is why it's not a stretch that he would show an anti-Islam stance.
He did support Ron Paul for a while, giving him airtime on his shows on a couple of different occasions. Though he is definitely quite full of himself, and makes many ridiculous statements.
There is no doubt the Western World needs to wake up to the real threat of radical Islam; but there is another threat that we are ignoring...the threat that China is bringing with Authoritarian Capitalism. With all of this in-fighting, we are missing the enemies at the gate.

La prise de conscience est là en Occident ,mais les politiques ne disent rien ,ou certains font un constat timide ,trop timide ! tout est une affaire d'argent ! la France est pieds et mains liés par l'Algérie qui fait son chantage avec le gaz ! nous avons trop d'immigration et pourtant la France vient d'accepter de faire rentrer sur notre sol encore plus d'Algériens ,pour la plupart sans qualification bien sur , soit 170000 visas par an !!! c'est de la folie ,du suicide ! Ils ne viennent chez nous que pour les aides sociales ! sans oublier l'aide médicale gratuite qui nous coute 540 millions d'euros pour 2010 !je suis trop dégoutée de tout cela ,vraiment trop dégoutée !!!
Kate... interesting statement regarding Algeria & France. Once again the Western World has allowed the Middle Eastern countries to have leverage because they own the oil. I am with George Schultz... it's time to wake up, Oil is King, and we don't control it. So, we better figure out an alternative that makes sense. How sweet would it be to give the Middle East the middle finger, and tell them we don't need the black gooey stuff that you live on top of; the stuff that you couldn't figure out how to get out of the ground without Western Engineers.
The Saudi's declared economic warfare on the West with the 1973 Oil Embargo. That was the line drawn in the sand... but we have done nothing to ween ourselves from this addiction. During the 80's and 90's oil was relatively cheap, so our do nothing leaders (on both aisles) sat on their hands. The amount of wealth that leaves this country to purchase oil is staggering. To top it off some of this American money is being used to fund terrorists organizations.

We have too much immigration and moreover, France just accepted the return on our soil of more Algerians, most of whom are unskilled of course, around 17,000 visas per year!! It's insanity, it's suicide! They are only coming here to take advantage of welfare, not to mention the free medical aid which costs us 540 million Euros in 2010! I am very disgusted by all of this, truly very disgusted!!

Sorry Stogie , il s'agit de 17O.OOO visas algériens ,(non 17.000 ). Sans compter les clandestins avec de faux papiers ,et tous ceux qui envoient soigner toute leur famille avec la meme carte verte de soins et ces incapables de fonctionnaires qui ne voient rien!!! Récemment ils ont découvert qu'un algérien avait déclaré 80 enfants qui n'existaient pas dans plusieurs villes de France et il touchait les aides sociales sans travailler des années !et il n'est pas le seul qui fraude ...!Ensuite ,nous n'avons plus d'argent pour nos soins à nous, Français ,nous qui avons de plus en plus de soins et médicaments NON remboursés ! Voilà ce que donne trop d'immigration et trop d'aides sociales , ils ruinent notre pays ! De plus ,ils veulent nous imposer leur islam ,leur idéologie barbare ! cela finira mal pour eux !
